FAQ
What do I do if the TuneEdit program hangs on startup?
Some customers have had this problem when they first start TuneEdit, this is caused by hitting cancel when the program asks you to select a tune file to open. The TuneEdit program will open but the next time you run TuneEdit it sometimes hangs on startup.
To fix this problem you should download the TuneBoy registry cleanup program, run this and click the button to clean out the registry settings. Now start TuneEdit again and this time select the tune file for your bike when it asks you to open a tune file.
You will need to set the properties for TuneEdit again and add your key to the TuneEdit keys again as these values are deleted by this program.
We are trying to work out what causes this but have not been able to reproduce the problem on our PC's.
What do I do if the TuneBoy program does not start when I double click the desktop icon?
Some customers have had this problem if they do not have Administrator rights on the PC when they install the program. This prevents the TuneBoy dll from being registered with the system. To fix this follow these steps.
(Windows Vista)
Click on the start orb, then all programs, then accessories, right click on command prompt and select "Run as administrator"
When the command prompt appears do the following:
- Change to the tuneboy directory. CD c:\program files\tuneboy\tuneboy
- Now enter the following. regsvr32 tuneboycontrol.dll. A popup will tell you that it is registered
- Now enter the following. tuneboy /skinname=standard
(Windows XP)
Logon as administrator, click on start, then all programs, then accessories and click on command prompt . When the command prompt appears do the following:
- Change to the tuneboy directory. CD c:\program files\tuneboy\tuneboy
- Now enter the following. regsvr32 tuneboycontrol.dll. A popup will tell you that it is registered
- Now enter the following tuneboy /skinname=standard
I cannot get the ECU serial number.
The most common cause for this is not opening the correct tune. You need to have a tune open that is for your type of ECU. It does not have to be the exact tune that is in the ECU, just a tune for your ECU. For example any Rocket III tune can be used to get the ECU serial number for a Rocket III, but if you have a Buell tune open the program will try to connect to a Buell and you will not be able to get the ECU serial number.
If you have the correct tune open and still do not get the ECU serial number you should look at the LED on the cable. It should be giving three slow blinks followed by a few quick blinks. If the LED on the cable is not blinking like this you should check in Windows device manager that the drivers for the cable are installed correctly.
If you have any doubt that the drivers are installed you should right click on the TuneBoy device in the "Universal serial bus controllers" and select "Uninstall". Once this is done you can unplug the disconnect/reconnect the cable and start the driver install again. Follow the "Getting started" section of the TuneEdit documentation to install the drivers correctly.
Why do I get the "Authorization failed" message
You will get the message "Authorization failed" in TuneBoy and "No Key for this ECU(nnnnnnnnnn)" in TuneEdit if you have entered the key incorrectly.
The key must be entered exactly as it appeared in the email response to your key request. If you have not requested the key please follow the "Getting started" section in the documentation or the "Getting started" tutorial on this web site.
I cannot get the ECU serial number, what is wrong.
1. You need to make sure that you have the correct type of tune open. Make sure you have a Keihin tune open if your bike has the Keihin ECU, the same applies for the Sagem, Webber, VDO and Delphi ECU's. You can download the correct tune for you bike off the fitment page.
2. If your cable is the new USB tuneboy cable and this shows up in the serial port drop down list as TuneBoy Cable(COMnn) then you need to have cable type set to Type 2, if the cable is listed as USB Serial Port(COMnn) then you should set the cable type USB.
3. Try removing the tick from "Precision timer" in the TuneEdit properties, also try adjusting the wait time as outlined in the troubleshooting section of the documentation.
Why do I only see the trim tables in TuneEdit.
This is because the default mode for TuneEdit is Novice mode. Simply click in the view menu and select Advanced user and all tables will be displayed.
What Do I Do If The Software Crashes Under Win XP?
Right mouse-click on the shortcut, select Properties, Compatibility, and select Win 98. This will fix the problem.
I Can Get The ECU Serial Number But When I Try The Download It Times Out. What Should I Do?
Make sure that the serial port on your PC has the FIFO buffers enabled. Find the Advanced settings for your COM port (in Control Panel) and enable the FIFO buffers.
You can also try reducing the speed on the receive buffers, this is on the same screen as the FIFO settings.
I Just Installed TuneBoy And I'm Getting An Error "oleaut32.dll is out of date." What Can I Do?
Copy the oleaut32.dll from the TuneBoy directory into the windows\system32 directory and it will fix the problem, this problem is caused because the copy of oleaut32.dll on your machine is older than the version that TuneBoy requires.
I do not get replies to my emails
Please check your spam filter to make sure the reply has not been considered spam. You may need to add us to your safe senders list.
If your email is a comcast.net email address then you may not get a reply, this is because comcast block entire domains if they receive spam from one email address. We cannot control this and your best option is to send the email to us from a different email address.
None of the above has helped, what should I do ?
If you have read the "Getting started" section of the documentation and still have a problem you should contact us by email with the following info.
- The model and year of your bike.
- What the problem is. The more detail the better. "It does not work" tells us nothing.
- The tune name you have open in TuneEdit, this must be a tune for your model bike. This is the most common mistake people make, they don't have the correct type of tune open.
- If you have a connection problem. Does the LED blink when you start TuneEdit, it should blink three slow blinks.
- If the LED does not blink you should check in Windows device manager to see if the TuneBoy cable drivers are installed correctly.
- What messages are displayed in the "Download log", a screen print of this and the properties screen is a big help.
If you provide the info above it will help us give the correct answer to solve your problems.
